It is important that this process is followed so that any reported defects/repairs can be logged, processed and monitored. Any guarantees on electrics or the heating system in your property will be invalid if unauthorised work is carried out without permission. This could result in a re-charge if a defect is reported where unauthorised work has been carried out.
