The residential areas will operate a defend in place policy, whereby only the apartment of the origin will evacuate and the remaining apartments will remain in place unless instructed to leave by management or the fire service. The standard approach reflects the high degree of compartmentation present in this type of building and minimises the impact of false alarms – an important consideration for residential accommodation. The non-residential accommodation on the ground floor will operate a simultaneous evacuation policy, where an alarm activation for the area will result in the total area/compartment evacuating. All residential accommodation will remain in place.
